Kerala Law Academy Moot Court Society has been formed in 1989. As per the bye-laws of the Society, the Secretary of the Society will be a member of the teaching faculty of Academy and the Chairman of the Society will be a distinguished or eminent personality. The first Chairman of the society was Professor Shankaradasan Thampy, who was former Principal of the Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram and first Secretary was Dr. S. Sivakumar, who is former lecturer of the Academy and presently Professor of the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. Professor Krishnan Nair, who was the Principal of Kerala Law Academy and the Government Colleges at Trivandrum, Ernakulam and Calicut, was the Chairman of the Society after Professor Shankaradasan Thampy.
The Moot Court Society organizes the Professional training schedule for the Mooters of the Academy moot team. Systematic and disciplined training for the development of the skills of the team members are part of the schedule. All the reasonable expenses for preparation and travel of the team members are borne by the society. The initial team selections are conducted by the expert panels constituted by the society and subsequent selections for various competitions from among the team members are decided by a committee of the society comprising of the Chairman and Secretary of the Society, Dr. Lekshmi Nair, other trainers and the Director of the Academy.
The Society conducts the All India Moot Court Competition, which is successfully into its 22nd year and the National Client Interviewing and Counseling Competition which is into its 11th year. An annual get-together of the society members for discussion and lunch or dinner is a regular feature of the society during which citations of recognition are distributed or honours conferred on the team members. Several joint discussion sessions and training sessions of the team members take place under the society. The society has a student convener to co-ordinate the activities.
