Hall of Fame

The mooters of the Academy have excelled in innumerable national competitions and have made their mark in both national and international levels. Though established in 1967, the teams from Academy started to win national moot rounds only from the late 1980s and getting more active from 1990 onwards. Since then several moot teams of the Academy have succeeded over the best from the national law universities and other prestigious law colleges. Few among them have attained fame in the circles of mooting at the zonal, national and international levels. Several students of the Academy moot teams have had the opportunities to win prestigious competitions defeating all other law schools / law colleges in India. Their numbers would exceed 100. But some among them have been outstandingly excellent, extra-ordinary and undefeatable at the national levels and have always struck a long lasting impression of excellence in the minds of fellow mooters and judges and they used to arouse an awe in the minds of the opponents. They were extremely talented and highly professional. The moot court society and trainers have selected a few of those outstandingly talented mooters for inclusion in list of most famous mooters of the Academy, along with their achievements. The inclusion in the hall of fame is only after the mooter leaves the Academy completing his student days.

Pretty Elizabeth Punnose (1990-1995)

She was a trendsetter. Her extra-ordinary command over language, clarity in delivery, exemplary response to questions stood her apart from other mooters. Her unflinching hard work and selfless attitude to serve other mooters provided the right direction for others to emulate. She set a mark for others and was responsible for raising the standard for the juniors of her time. She won her maiden victory at Ernakulam while she was doing her first five year and in the process her team defeated several top ranked teams like the Delhi Team and former winners including the then prevailing Jessup Winner, Prabhu, of Dr. Ambedker Law College, Chennai. The final victory for her came in front of a full bench of sitting judges of the Kerala High Court. All the judges, who judged her, could not believe that she was in the first year and were awestruck to find so after announcing the results. Now she is settled as a legal professional in Canada. Nandini Morris (1990-1995)

Initially found herself not among the top in the internal selections, but came up through sheer dedication and hard work and by helping others without selfish attitude. Spend considerable time in research and put extra effort and work in perfecting the oral submissions and response to questions. The result was extra-ordinary clarity and fluency in submissions and in response to questions and was unstoppable and undefeatable on her day. Now she is working and settled in Baharin. Dimple Mohan (1991-1996)

An aggressive but polite speaker, was always thorough in preparation and research and was meticulous in her work. A winner right from the beginning, was keen on team work and with the right combination and support from her partner, she always emerged stronger and as a team the winner. She is now an entrepreneur leading her own financial establishment. Her creditable achievements are the following:-

Sindhu Santhalingam (1991-1996)

Excellent speaker with extra ordinary clarity and outspoken character in moot courts, through soft spoken and shy elsewhere. Her response to questions showed her indepth knowledge of the subject and thorough research. Though not a topper initially, came up to the top through sheer hard work and dedication. A team worker, who spend considerable time and energy helping fellow mooters selflessly was totally disciplined and an ideal model to be followed. She is the daughter of Shri. Santhalingam, Senior Advocate of Kerala High Court. Now works and is settled in Canada. Her achievements include the following:-

Preetha. A.K. (1991-1996)

During the initial selections, she was nowhere near the top or near the best. Thus started as a researcher and improved as a speaker. Worked for others without selfishness, observed keenly and came to the top and became the best. On her day she was undefeatable. Became an outstanding performer through sheer hard work, but unfortunately did not get the opportunity for international exposure. She is the daughter of Shri. Aravindan, Advocate, Peerumedu, Kerala. She is now a lawyer at the High Court of Kerala with her own office. Some of her achievements are the following :-

Binu Varghese (1994-1999)

As a subsequent inclusion in the moot team, opportunities that came his way were less but he conquered the minds of audience and created innumerable fans in all the law schools / law colleges he went to and his scintillating performance before a bench of three sitting judges of the Kerala High Court in the finals of T.S Venkatasewara Iyer competition at Ernakulam brought rare comments of appreciation from the judges and audience and also won him the best student lawyer of India award.

Thushara James (1994-1999)

Basically studious with outstanding oratorical and literary skills, she combined intelligence, hard work, dedication and team spirit to be a winner all the way and establish her name among the national and international mooting circles. Did meticulous and in depth study and research and was a keen observer and sheer professional when it came to presentations and submissions in a moot court. Her ability to tackle difficult questions of law and strategize by predicting the opponent’s arguments were admired by all. Versatile, and shrewd, she bagged prizes and was conferred with titles wherever she went. She is the daughter of Shri. James Joseph, former Director of Higher Secondary Education to the Government of Kerala and Smt. (Dr.) Jancy James, The Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Kerala. With two publications (books- business/legal(English) and fiction(Malayalam), and several research presentations(in India and abroad) to her credit, she is a practicing lawyer at The High Court of Kerala attached to reputed firm “M/s Menon & Pai Advocates”. Some of her achievements are the following:-

Rekha Pillai (1994-1999)

Had innate skills of speaking and lawyering. Through hard and disciplined training polished, refined and developed her lawyering skills. Was hard working and dedicated as was ready to go through any number of presentations. Answering questions in any number of practice and training rounds and undergoing umpteen practice sessions, she was untiring. Now working as law Professor in Switzerland and some of her achievements are the following.

Niyatha Srinivas (1996-2001)

She was a resolute and smooth speaker and had an outstanding style of presentation. Her speaking abilities were extraordinary. With sheer hard work and training, she sharpened her abilities and style and was one of the best in the national mooting circles and at times her performance was awesome. Presently working in a Multi-National Company in Bangalore.

Laxmi Devi Somanath (1996-2001)

A hard trier, became an outstanding Moot Court performer with hard work and continuous practice in the training sessions of the moot society. Her court behavious, court craft, court language as well as legal diction were natural and a treat to hear and watch. She is working as member of teaching faculty at the National Law University Jodhpur.

Arun. S. (1997-2002)

Was an exciting and wonderful performer and had a great original style of presentation. Though performed extra-ordinarily well in the Jessup National Rounds and won great applause and appreciation from the judges and some of the finalists therein, in the ultimate neck to neck competition lost the final two slots by a whisker on slight score difference. Luck was totally against them on the said day and they lost qualification not for want of performance but for luck. Any way a great mooter who came up only through hard work and dedication. Presently working in Australia. Some of his achievements are the following:-

Rabi George (1997-2002)

Along with Arun, he was a great performer. Worked hard and with sheer dedication and hard practice at training sessions, obtained a natural style of his own with great clarity and fluency. On his day he is the topper. However, luck prevented them from repeating outright success at the Raj Anand and Jessup, though won great applause and appreciation from the judges and audience alike for their performance. Presently is a leading lawyer of repute and recognition at the Pathanamthitta District Court Bar of Kerala. Some of his achievements are the following:-

Tina Kuriakose (1997-2001)

A naturally talented speaker and good researcher, had qualities of inquisitiveness indepth study and ability of a natural speaker. She was a good performer and hard practitioner at training sessions and gave a hard fight before loosing the final league round at the Jessup. Though lost the final round, won great applause for the superb performance in the final round. Presently working in New Delhi.

Anitha Khuranna (1997-2002)

Was a disciplined member of the Academy Moot team and strictly adhered to the training schedules and worked selflessly. Presently working and settled in Punjab.

Mariam Nissar (1998-2003)

She was a team worker and motivator and used to tirelessly help other mooters. Had the capacity to go deep into the subject while researching on the problems. Devoid of selfish interest, even after being a winner, was always willingly to accompany and in fact accompanied teams as researcher and observer. She had an outstanding style of presentation and clarity in language. Her Court craft, language, behaviour and manners were excellent and she was really a professional. Due to certain unforeseen circumstances, she lost the chance of taking part in the Philip. C. Jessup National Rounds in 2003. She is the daughter of former District and Sessions Judge of Kerala, M.A. Nissar and grand daughter of Late Justice, Moidu, former Senior Judge of the Kerala High Court. Presently settled in U.A.E.

Maheswari (1998-2003)

Was a natural speaker and trained hard in the practice sessions to make her performance excellent. Her style of submissions was unique and always put extra effort in helping fellow mooters. A selfless team worker, attained excellent court craft through practice and training. She is presently working and settled in Singapore. Some of her achievements are the following:-

Linda Francis (1999-2004)

She was a simple hard working team member and she was one of the finest mooters, who kept low-profile, yet was excellent in presentation with pleasing and yet bold style of submissions. She is presently working in a Multi National Company in Hyderabad.

Anupama. V.G. (2000-2005)

A determined and disciplined cadre of the Moot Society. During an initial part was not part of the Moot Society, but later came back into the discipline of the system. An extremely talented mooter, she is highly inquisitive, researches indepth and performs exceptionally well in adverse situations. Presently she is working as Munsiff/Magistrate in the Kerala Judicial Service.
